Our female guinea pig MONICA provided us with an unexpected baby last year.  Named "Miss Piggy" she is an adorable tri-colour and very timid!  Monica came to us from The Society for the Protection and Re-homing of Animals (SPRA), a small local charity devoted to the resettlement of abandoned pets.

Dusty, Sylvie and Sapphire produced over 25 ducklings last year! Many have now gone to new homes but we have several pairs of assorted colours - including white, silver and apricot.  They love to fly.  We are hoping for more ducklings in the Spring.

Our Black Rock Chickens provide us with fresh eggs every day!

Our STICK INSECTS just keep growing and growing...

 Animals - Pets and Livestock

Get involved by looking after our livestock in this safe environment close to the house, or just enjoy petting them - it's your choice.  We have lots of patience and offer a great experience for children or adults whether or not you  are used to handling or being around animals.   "The children absolutely loved all the animals, especially feeding them." Tim, Lisa, Louis, Lydia and Christie; "The boys loved the animals and went out day and night searching for eggs!", Deborah, James and Miles; "Excellent hosts - very patient", Julie, Will and Ellie. We see children grow in confidence as they pet and feed the animals whatever the weather.  Getting up and outside early is a brilliant start to every day of your holiday.

ROXIE is a very demanding puppy ...

... running off with anything she can lay her paws on!

... now nearly three years old and is recovering from an operation on her leg after getting it caught while jumping one of the field gates.

Our four Shetland ponies (two mares and two foals) came to us from South West Equine Protection.

Poppy is  now 10 and Mum to Tammy, Catkin is 5 (she is Willow's Mum).  Both the foals are girls (fillies) and are 2 years old.  They are very tame and the foals (each about 3 feet tall) approach you as soon as you set foot in their field.  They love having their necks scratched!

Our Hebridean sheep are seldom apart.  They roam, skip and run as if they were 'stitched' together and are very entertaining to watch as they scamper around the meadow.

In 1973 the Rare Breeds Survival Trust identified Hebridean sheep as a breed in danger of extinction and it was still regarded as a rare breed just twelve years ago.  Careful  management has, however, built their numbers to such an extent that the future of the breed is now guaranteed.

We have five alpacas three boys and named Chico (white), Bebe (light brown) and Paco (dark brown/black) and two girls, Maisie and Gossamer.  Gossamer has the most beautiful and unusual blue eyes.  When you come to stay you may be able to get them to feed from you hand!

Alpacas are the smallest of the camel family and are prized for their fine fleece.  They originate from South America and communicate with each other through a series of little humming noises.  Alpacas are very inquisitive animals and respond well to children.

Before and after shearing

We regularly adopt hens from the Battery Hen Welfare Trust.  Here is a photo of two of them on arrival looking a bit 'threadbare' after their experiences at the battery farm.  They are already very happy as they scratch, peck and enjoy the feeling of grass beneath their feet for the very first time.

We also have other breeds of chickens who provide us with a fresh supply of eggs in a variety of sizes and colours!  Our dear ex-bats are the most easy going and the marans are the cheekiest - their favourite spot is the vegetable garden!
